A camping trip can be a great vacation. You can connect with the natural world and also connect with yourself in a way that is not possible in the every day world. Hiking, building fires and relaxing are just a few ways that you can enjoy your time. There are endless numbers of ways in which one can enjoy a camping trip. In this article, however, we are just going to go over some basic ways in which one can get the maximum out of one’s camping experience.

Be sure to know the recent conditions of where you will be staying. For example, you will want to know if the area will be dry enough to find suitable firewood. Bringing your own small supply of wood and keeping it dry is a wise decision.

Bring a survival kit on the trip and keep it on your person all the time. This kit should include water-purifying tablets, a first-aid kit, flare gun, survival knife and waterproof matches. This kit can save your life if you get into a dangerous situation. Never leave the kit behind, even for a short excursion.

Pack a roll of duct tape with the rest of your supplies; this sticky wonder can help in a variety of circumstances. Such tape can quickly fix holes in tents, leaking inflatables and worn soles on shoes. It can also be used to seal mosquito netting.

Make sure you have all the gear you need before you leave your driveway. You definitely don’t want to leave something essential behind, such as your sleeping bag or tent. Check to make sure you have everything you need with a check list prior to going on your trip.

The main idea when you’re camping out in the wilderness is to live with what you can, but it’s important to be prepared for anything. You should bring your sleeping bag, plus some extra blankets. This can help you stay warm if it cools down at night or you may use them for extra padding.

Make it a point to properly prepare your flashlight when you pack for your trip. You can easily turn on the flashlight while searching through bags and equipment. Keep the batteries for the flashlight in backwards. It will keep the power from draining from the batteries and have them easily installed when you need it.

Prior to going camping, be sure to create a list of what you’ll need. A list will help you to not forget to bring any essentials. Prepare for your trip a couple days prior to leaving and use a check list to ensure you have everything as you pack.

Create shelter before it gets dark out, as it can be very difficult to function when night falls. Tent building in the dark is a major obstacle to confront. You will have to have a flashlight or create a fire. It is easier if you do it while it is still daylight.

Make sure that you never go camping without duct tape. Tents are pretty durable, but they still have the tendency to get weathered and torn. A piece of duct tape is sure to fix any damage on your tent and can ensure a safe, dry night in the woods.

Master a map and a compass before heading out for your trip. Even if you know the area well, getting lost is always a possibility. Avoid problems by learning to use these items that can save your life.

Food poisoning is a common ailment while camping. Make sure to maintain the best preservation possible to keep your food fresh for the longest period of time. Make sure there is plenty of ice in the cooler for perishables, and do not fail to drain the cooler regularly to prevent soaking the food.

Think about how you are going to get food cooked at your campsite. Decide how you will cook early on, so that you can prepare accordingly. Also, take the necessary supplies on your trip to facilitate cooking.

You can use a shower curtain in place of a tarp under your tent. A shower curtain can also serve other purposes, including a place to wash your cooking utensils and a place to take quick showers without getting your feet and legs muddy. Instead of getting rid of an old shower curtain, use it for your next camping trip.

Take toilet paper and baby wipes with you. You could certainly use leaves, but that is an unnecessary inconvenience as long as you plan in advance.

Do your bathroom chores downstream if your camp site is close to a water source. By doing this, the water that flows past the campsite will be clean. Also be sure to do this pretty far away from camp.

If there are snakes near your camp site, take precautions. This means avoid going near thick brush, piles of rocks and woodpiles. Check everything you have on you to ensure a snake isn’t hiding in your clothing or bags. Seal off your tent each night and build up dirt around the edges so a snake can’t slither under the tent.

Know how to identify poisonous plants and creatures before you go camping. Toxic plants seem like other plants unless you know their distinct look. Get a book on how you can identify these harmful plants or look it up online. This will allow you to avoid these plants.

Making your camping trip an outstanding one ought to be far more feasible with these tips in hand. Take your time and get familiar with this advice for the next time you go camping. The tips will help you avoid forgetting, and you can have the most enjoyable time of your life.
