Many people have preconceived notions about camping such as how boring it is and the potential insect bites. It’s not always a negative experience, though. By taking the time to properly plan, you can avoid nasty bugs, eat well and have a wonderful time. Continue reading to learn more about ensuring the trip is a fun success.

Always locate your shelter before dark when you are camping. Once it is dark in the woods, pitching a tent can be next to impossible, finding firewood can be difficult and preparing food hard. This is even more true if you’re accustomed to city life, and your eyes haven’t adjusted to the darkness of the woods. Set up camp before dark to keep yourself from getting into this situation.

Although you might assume the woods will offer you plenty of firewood for your camping needs, nature may surprise you with rain-soaked logs or wood that will not easily ignite. Bring along some dry wood and store it where it remain dry.

TIP! You might think you can find enough wood for your fire in the woods, but the wood you find might be wet and not want to burn. Bringing some extra wood in a watertight wrapping is a smart idea for camping success.

Make sure you have a survival kit with you during your entire camping trip. Things to include in your survival pack are a knife, matches that are waterproof, first aid kit, flares and tablets to purify water. These items are important to have in case you get lost. It is important that you carry your survival kit with you at all times.

When buying a tent, be sure that it’s large enough to accommodate you and any guests you have. With enough room, getting up during the night will not disturb others in the tent, and you can all be comfortable while sleeping.

Don’t worry about over-packing for your kids. Camping can be quite dirty. Children seem to be dirt magnets. Therefore, you will need to understand that a clean trip is probably out of the question. You don’t want to interrupt their fun, it’s a joy of camping after all; but, keep some extra clothing with you for them. Stay ahead of the game!

TIP! Over-packing is better than under-packing when it comes to children. Camping can be messy.

Double-check any medical insurance. You might need a new policy if you go to another state. This becomes even more important if your camping trip takes you to another country. Be sure you’re prepared to be on the safe side!

If possible, incorporate swimming into your camping trip. A hot shower can be sorely missed. You will find yourself feeling clean and refreshed after a dip in cool water. This can lesson the desire for your home shower.

Get a big enough tent to fit everyone and gear properly. This will allow you to sleep more comfortably and get up easier during the night when you need to use the bathroom.

TIP! Choose a tent large enough for everyone that will be expected to use it. This will make it easy for you all to have a comfortable time sleeping, and moving around in the middle of the night when nature calls for people.

Always have all your gear prepared before the trip. You don’t need to forget something important like your sleeping bag or tent. Check to make sure you have everything you need with a check list prior to going on your trip.

Don’t go far from home during your first couple of camping trips. You could have problems with your gear, or you may find you don’t like camping. Perhaps you realize that you’ve run out of food or haven’t packed enough clothing. A lot of issues can happen for the new camper, so do not go too far for your first camp trip.

Take a first-aid class, especially if children are camping with you. This way, should an accident occur, at least you are properly prepared until help arrives. Never forget to research. Find out what poisonous snakes or dangerous animals live in the area.

TIP! Go to a class to learn about first aid. You will be prepared for any accidents that may occur and can survive until you reach professional medical care.

As you now know, camping can be an incredibly enjoyable adventure. Utilize the advice found here to help you plan a terrific camping excursion. Doing this means you can prevent the pitfalls possible and get the best out of camping.
