Camping has become extremely popular, thanks in part to it being featured on reality television. If you are ready to go camping, read the article below for tips that will make your trip a memorable one.

Remember that everything you bring along, including you and your family, will more than likely get dirty. Being prepared for the inevitable is the best way to avoid unneeded stress. Just enjoy and appreciate being free in the wilderness; get stuck in and get messy. You can return to being clean and civilized when you’re at home.

Allow everyone who is going on the trip to have a say about the campsite. Talk over what your destination state should be. Try to keep a small list, as there is such an abundance of spots to choose from, it can be hard to pick one. To make your decision easier, pick a few favorites and then vote on the final choice.

When you buy a new tent, always set it up at home once before taking it camping. That way, you can make sure you have everything you need to set up the tent, including knowledge of how to do it properly. That can also cut down on the frustration some feel when setting a tent up for the first time.

Try using dryer lint to help you start your campfire. In order to have enough lint to start a fire, begin collecting it a month prior to your trip. Keep a simple plastic or ziplock bag near your dryer to make collecting easier. You can just go about your business after that.

Even the most natural experience can allow for one nice luxury from home. Bring a lightweight, easy-to-carry item like good chocolate, cream for coffee or another reminder of home with you. A few small indulgences can make you incredibly happy.

Set your campsite, tent and sleeping bags up before it gets dark. When adventuring in an RV, be safely parked before dark. When pitching a tent, locate dry and flat ground. If you do that before it gets dark, you can get a good look at your immediate surroundings. It will also make it easier to see what you’re doing, saving you a lot of frustration.

Camping is a very kid-friendly activity, but you should keep kids busy by planning activities. They could get bored if there isn’t anything to do. They probably aren’t used to camping activities such as pitching a tent or fishing. Spend a day teaching them what they need to know before you leave for your trip.

Try to find a campsite that is closer to your house for your convenience when on your first trip. You may run into problems that will require you to shorten your trip, like problems with equipment. You may come to realize that you should have packed different clothing, or need more food. A lot of issues can happen for the new camper, so do not go too far for your first camp trip.

Be prepared for anything when you go camping. Make sure you have put a little thought into things in case the unexpected does occur. The weather could change suddenly, you could encounter hostile people or animals, and someone could become sick or injured. Try not to take unnecessary risks that can yield injury or illness.

When you find your site, seek out the softest, most level ground to put your tent on. If you select a bumpy or slanted area, you will have an uncomfortable experience in your tent. A tarp underneath your tent is handy as it can help keep water from entering.

Your list of camping supplies should include several flashlights with extra batteries and lanterns. You will need a light source to see clearly once the sun sinks in the sky. A flashlight can prevent a fall and scare away unwanted wildlife. If you have little ones with you, make sure to pack a flashlight for them, too.

You will have now realized that camping does require a little thought. It’s important to be prepared. Being forewarned you can now enjoy your trip away and have a lot of fun on your next camping vacation!
