Go Camping In Style With These Tips

Prepare yourself to become a camping expert. Camping allows you time in nature to just enjoy it, go hiking, fishing or many other fun activities. Keep this information in mind before you take your trip, so that you can ensure that the trip goes as smoothly as possible.

All participants should have a say in where you go camping. Talk about the state you would like to go to. There are many different places, so it can be hard to choose. If it is easier, select a few of your personal favorites and then let the entire family vote.

It is better to over-pack than to under-pack, especially for kids. Being out in the wild can result in all sorts of messes. Children seem to be magnetically attracted to dirt. This means that by day’s end your children and their clothes can be quite soiled. Take extra clothing with you for your children. Stay ahead of the game!

Be sure that your tent will comfortably fit everyone that you will be sharing it with to have a good trip. Being stuffed into a tent can make it almost impossible to get any sleep, and you certainly do not want to be stepping on people if you have to get out during the night.

It is important to take even greater care storing food if you are planning to travel to an area with active and dangerous wildlife. Wrap your food up tight and keep it far away from seeing areas. This will reduce the chance of an attack.

Are you a camping novice? If you are, practice setting up your tent before you go camping. By doing so, you will know that the equipment is all included, and you will be familiar with the process of pitching it. That way, you can get things done rapidly once you get to the campsite.

Remember the old scout motto – be prepared! Things can sometimes go awry, even when carefully planned. The weather could turn sour, injuries could occur or other unforeseen events may happen. You must always exercise great care, avoid risk and consider your actions always.

Before setting out on your camping adventure, plan for what you will wear. Make sure you’ll have clean clothes to wear every day. It’s imperative that you have clothing on hand that is right for the weather in the location you will be camping in. Durable shoes like hiking boots or other closed-toe shoes are also recommended for many situations.

It is recommended you bring lots of beef jerky and/or trail mix when you go camping. Both items are fairly healthy and will come in handy when you don’t feel like cooking. They stay fresh for a while, so you do not have to worry about them going bad if you do not use them up right away.

A utility knife is the perfect camping accessory. A utility knife is a very versatile piece of equipment and one that every camper should have. In fact, you should also bring an extra utility knife with you in case you misplace your main utility knife.

It’s a great idea to go to your main camp when you have a cell phone that you’ve fully charged. It is an even better idea to bring extra batteries as an emergency backup. Your phone could be the most important equipment you have in an emergency.

Before setting out on your camping adventure, make sure you can read a map and a compass. You can get lost no matter where you are camping, keep that in mind. Using a map or compass can actually save your life if you’re lost. Learn to use them so that you don’t suffer a tragic fate.

When erecting your tent, ensure that you are able to seal all seams. You can get a tube of sealant at a sporting goods store if you didn’t get any with your tent. This will keep any critters and/or rainwater from getting inside your tent.

Food poisoning happens for campers when food is not packed properly. If the food that you pack for camping is not canned, vacuum sealed or preserved, you exposing yourself to the possibility of experiencing food poisoning from eating spoiled food. Pack numerous ice packs to keep perishable foods chilled and do not forget to pull your cooler’s drain plug so that food products do not get soaked.

When choosing a sleeping bag, make sure that you pick one that is meant for the season and climate in which you plan to camp. For example, if you are going camping during the summer months, you will probably want a lightweight sleeping bag, so that your body does not overheat during the night. When it’s wintertime, it’s a good idea to get a thicker bag so you’re not too cold.

Bring dryer lint on your next camping trip. Many people use dryer lint as kindling to make a fire while camping. Twick and wood chips just can’t compare to the bright flames of a handful of dryer lint. All you need is the lint and a spark for a quick, warm fire.

Be sure to pack plenty of water, drinks and food in the camping supplies. If you don’t do this then you might find yourself going to the store a lot during your trip. Dispose of any garbage by burning it so the smell does not attract bears to your camp.

When camping near running water, take care of any private business downstream from your camp. This will keep anyone getting water from the river will not be drinking your waste. The location should be well away from both the water and your campsite.
