You need to know camping basics and how to prepare in advance to keep yourself safe and have an enjoyable experience. All of the tips given can be used anytime you plan to go camping.

Dryer lint makes wonderful kindling to start your campfires with. Begin collecting dryer lint a few weeks before your trip. Have a bag next to the dryer so you don’t forget to collect it. You can just go about your business after that.

Don’t forget to include special pillows made just for camping on your adventure. Standard pillows can get hot and sticky in humid weather. Because they absorb moisture from the air, they can quickly mildew. Camping pillows are covered with a special coating that keeps moisture at bay.

As you plan your camping adventure, take children aside and go over common dangers and issues they may encounter. You can always visit websites that illustrate the dangers posed by poison ivy as well as other harmful plants.

Plan your first camping trip close to home. You could run into problems with your gear, or decide to cut the trip short. Perhaps you realize that you’ve run out of food or haven’t packed enough clothing. Many issues can occur for new campers, so you should camp near home your first time.

Take along things to do while you are in the wild. Card games, fishing poles or games like a scavenger hunt can be very entertaining in the wild. This is especially important if children are going to be camping.

The supplies for your next camping excursion should include a couple rolls of duct tape. This item has many uses and can help you save a lot of time and money. It is perfect for fixing an air mattress. It can also be used on your tarp or tent. Before embarking on an arduous hike, put it on each foot to stave off blisters. It even works as a bandage.

Generally when you camp, you want to live with as little as possible but still be prepared for anything. Not only should you carry a sleeping bag, a few blankets are a good idea also. Blankets make good padding and can help you stay warm if it’s colder than you expect at night.

Are you a first time camper who has just bought your very first sleeping tent? Before you head off on that initial camping trip, practice pitching your tent. If you have successfully done it at home, pitching it at your campsite will be easier. This will also enable you to do this task quickly if you arrive at the campsite, right before darkness sets in.

Know where your kids are at all times. There are many people coming and going all of the time and you do not want them to get kidnapped or lost. Disaster can strike in seconds; this makes it imperative that you always have an eye out for your kids.

Plan what you’re going to wear before setting off on a camping trip. Make sure you’ll have clean clothes to wear every day. Make sure that you have the correct types of clothes for your camping trip. Sturdy shoes or hiking boots are considered essential footwear for any camping trip.

Carry an additional utility knife in case your original one breaks. Utility knives can be quite versatile, so be sure to have an extra with you.

Make sure your cell phone is fully charged before leaving your car or campsite. You may also want to bring a couple of extra batteries in case one runs out. In the event of an emergency, you will need your cell to call out for help, so this item is very important.

Before going camping, make sure you know how to read your map or how to use your compass. If you have visited the campsite before, you can still get lost once you arrive. You can avoid potential tragedy by learning how to use these lifesaving items.

Seal all your tent’s seams. You can purchase tubes of sealant at a sporting goods store, or your tent may have included some. This will prevent rain or little critters from getting inside.

So many people suffer from food poisoning because food is not stored and prepared correctly. If your food isn’t prepacked or canned, food poisoning might be a risk. Pack perishable foods in ice and drain your cooler often to prevent water from damaging the food.

Make sure to practice food safety whenever you go camping. Store all food in airtight and waterproof containers. Also, use insulated coolers. Don’t keep raw and cooked food together, so there is no contamination. Use hand sanitizer and soap to keep hands, as well as preparation surfaces, clean while you are handling food. Cook foods to proper temperatures and chill foods quickly.

Any camping experience is enhanced when you make the proper preparations beforehand. Use the tips you’ve just been provided with to have a relaxing and more secure camping trip.
