The perception that people have of camping is boredom mixed with insect bites and camp food. This, however, is not really the truth. It can mean great food, good times and no bugs if preparations are made. Keep reading to learn how to plan for an enjoyable trip.

Although you might assume the woods will offer you plenty of firewood for your camping needs, nature may surprise you with rain-soaked logs or wood that will not easily ignite. It’s always prudent to bring wood that you have gathered beforehand, and to store it in a location where it will stay dry.

Before you leave home to go camping, check to see if inclement weather is predicted in the area you are planning to visit. There are lots of excellent websites that you can use for a weather forecast and they can give you an idea of what to expect. When you know what the weather will be like beforehand, you can plan more appropriately.

Set up a “jungle breakfast” when you are camping with your kids. Take little juice boxes, mini cereal boxes, and fruit into the woods and be sure to tie them to a nearby tree. When the children awake, tell them that they have to “hunt” to get breakfast. This is a wonderful way to spice up the whole camping trip.

Try to camp near water, where you can also enjoy swimming. While you are camping in the great outdoors, it can be very easy to miss taking your daily shower. When swimming, you will feel refreshed and cleaner. If you use some biodegradable soap, you can get just as clean as you would at home.

Bring a bandanna or a large handkerchief with you when you go camping. A bandana is very versatile and can be used as a blotter, potholder, mini-bag and more. There are many uses for these, so you want to be sure you have one or both of them on your next camping trip.

It is vital that you take a first-aid kit with you anytime that you go camping. You want to bring a kit for any situation that might arise during your camping trip. Some extra emergency supplies like anti-venom may be included, too, depending on the types of wildlife you may encounter.

Oranges are great for camping since they’re healthy, easy to eat, and they also keep mosquitoes away. Rubbing orange peels on your body will function as a perfect insect repellent.

Duct tape is an imperative item to bring with you on your camping trip into the wilderness. Its multipurpose properties aren’t only useful at home, they can be used in the wild too. You can use it to repair a hole in an air mattress. It can repair a rip in a sleeping bag, tarp or tent. If you are going on a long hike, you can put it on the sensitive parts of your feet for blister prevention. This can also be used for injuries when you do not have a regular doctor around.

While the concept of camping involves getting away from it all, you still need to be prepared with some basic items. Bring creature comforts like a sleeping bag, extra blankets and even an air mattress. This is useful for nights where the temperature gets too cold or as extra padding when sleeping on hard ground.

When it comes to camping, anything can happen and it’s important to always be prepared. It’s important to plan for anything, but the unexpected could still happen. Weather conditions can turn on a dime, your surroundings can change suddenly and injuries can occur at any time. It’s important to not be careless, not take any unnecessary risks, and to think before taking any actions.

Find a soft and flat spot to pitch your tent when you are camping in the wilderness. Choosing a rocky or sloped spot will result in you feeling discomfort when you have to spend time in the tent. Make sure to put a tarp down so that water cannot penetrate your tent.

Before leaving for your trip, write a list of what you need to bring along. This will be key, particularly if you are camping far away from home. Prepare for your trip a couple days prior to leaving and use a check list to ensure you have everything as you pack.

An orange peel can help to avoid insect bites. If you forgot your mosquito repellant, do not worry. Rub the white, pithy insides of the orange skin over your skin. Mosquitoes should be repelled from you for a few hours.

Plan what you’re going to wear before setting off on a camping trip. Make sure you have plenty of clean clothes for the duration of your trip. Pack clothes that will allow you to dress properly for whatever weather is expected in the area where you will be camping. Include closed toe shoes or hiking boots if you want to do some hiking.

You should now know that there is great deal of fun to be had while camping. Plan your next adventure in the great outdoors with the help of these tips. When used correctly, they can help you avoid negative or dangerous situations and enjoy all that is great about camping.
