There is nothing better than camping out at night with those close to you. There are many reasons why camping can be a great pastime. While a camping trip can be fun, some things need to be considered before you go. The following advice will help you be better prepared for going camping.

Let everyone know they have a say in the campsite and should help pick a favorite spot. Discuss which state you wish to visit. Since the are so many great options to choose from across the U.S., it might be hard to select only one! Narrow down your top choices and let your entire family decide.

TIP! Let your family members all have a decision when it comes to choosing a campsite. Discuss which state you would most like to visit.

When you’re camping, always look for shelter prior to dark. Once blackness falls out there in the woods, it can be extremely difficult to pitch a tent, find good firewood and prepare food. Some people cannot see very well at night, and this makes setting up camp at night next to impossible. Avoid this by setting up your shelter ahead of time.

Pack a survival kit and carry it on you at all times. You need to pack a flare gun, utility knife, matches and a first aid kit. You may find that this kit makes the difference between life and death in an emergency situation. Your kit should not be left behind at the camp site, but should be carried with you wherever you go.

Dryer lint can make great kindling for creating campfires. Collect the lint in your dryer and store it in a bag a few weeks before you go camping to prepare for this. An easy way to remember to save up your lint is to keep a plastic bag near your dryer as a reminder. By doing this, you’ll have all the kindling you need.

TIP! Old dryer lint makes a great fire-starter. A month prior to your trip, start saving the lint you pull from the lint screen in your dryer.

Pack what is necessary for your children. Camping can be quite dirty. Kids simply love to get dirty. As the day goes on, you may end up with messy, dirty kids. Take extra clothing with you for your children. Be prepared!

Emergency kits are one of the most important things to bring on a camping trip. There are certain things you’ll need to include at certain locations (i.e. a snake bite kit.) However, there some basics you should always have with you. You may want to pack bear repellent or antivenom.

TIP! Be prepared to handle any emergency that may arise and have a plan in place. The contents of the kit may change depending on where you camp and who you are with, but it should contain basic supplies.

Check the terms of your health insurance before leaving. You may need an additional policy when you are traveling on your camping trip. This becomes even more important if your camping trip takes you to another country. Semper paratus doesn’t just apply to the military! Be prepared!

Try to add an activity having to do with swimming to your camping trip if at all possible. When you’re out camping, it’s really easy to miss your shower at home. Cool water can give you a feeling of exhilaration that may help you to miss your shower at home much less.

Don’t forget the duct tape when you pack for a camping trip, to solve just about any dilemma! It can be used as a quick patch for tents, shoes, inflatables, or can be used to secure items such as your mosquito netting.

TIP! Don’t forget to pack up some duct tape when you’re camping because it’s very versatile. Such tape can quickly fix holes in tents, leaking inflatables and worn soles on shoes.

As you can see, there are many things you can do ensure you have a great camping experience. Use the advice you have just read so that your next camping trip will be safe and enjoyable.
